School-Year Programming

Learning doesn't stop when summer ends. Our year-round academic and social-emotional support ensures continuous student engagement throughout the school year.

Our Approach

Launched in 2020 to address pandemic-related learning loss, our school-year programming has expanded to provide comprehensive support that complements students' regular school experience.

Program Components
Tutoring

Over the past four years, students in our tutoring program have demonstrated consistent academic growth in literacy and math. Previously conducted virtually, tutoring is transitioning to in-person sessions. The program now integrates golf lessons through our partnership with First Tee, offering students opportunities to develop resilience, grit, and confidence.

Social-Emotional Check-ins & Wellness

Each tutoring session begins with a student-teacher check-in to establish a supportive learning environment. Implementing a standard social-emotional curriculum helps manage behavior, foster positive relationships, and supports students in managing external stress. Throughout the year, wellness classes, like yoga and mindfulness, led by our dedicated social worker provide additional strategies for emotional regulation and stress relief.

Events & Field Trips

Horizons cultivates strong relationships between students, peers, and teachers through continuous engagement via field trips, mini-Horizons days, and other events that provide meaningful connections throughout the school year. By serving as a sustained support network beyond traditional school and family structures, Horizons creates a comprehensive ecosystem of academic and personal growth for students.
